Opening of the extended Computer Lab II
CollegeThe newly extended and upgraded Computer Laboratory II of the Collegiate section will be blessed and opened today (11th Sep) at 7.45 a.m. 20 more new computers have been added to the existing lab and the area extended to cater to more students. Funds for this purpose were made available from the proceeds of the annual OBU fund raiser, the 'BENEDICTINE NITE' and the Development Fund. Old Ben Roy Perera, finance Director Jetwing Travels and Mrs. Renuka Perera will grace the occasion as Chief Guests. Old Ben Roy is a very active and loyal Old Ben who has and still continue to assist the school in numerous ways. Currently he is the Treasurer of the College Development Fund.

We cordially invite all our well wishers to attend the function today.

Computer technology is an important part of the future of learning. It is most heartening to see that St Benedict's is in the forefront in this regard with the opening of the Computer Lab II. It is also most satisfying to note that more students of the Collegiate section can now avail of this wonderful opportunity with the extended areas. What has to be remembered is that the hardware and software come with huge potential and has to be used to its maximum capacity if one is to benefit from the outlay. In this day and age, Information Technology is the way to go. So get the maximum possible out of it to enhance your studies. IT is an incomparable educational tool. It is not just a case of word processing. It is a global thing, seeking knowledge available at the press of a button. A word of caution: horrible things are also available at the press of a button these days. But we Benedictines are inteligent and discerning people who can separate the valuable from the dross, the good from the bad. Sorry about the sermon. My mother always told me that I should have become a priest. But I had other ideas. Anyhow, you also have an excellent web portal in www.stbenedictscollege.org and in that you have a vehicle to communicate with any Old Benedictine anywhere in the world in an instant. That is an opportunity that I and thousands of Bens in my time never had. God has blessed you. So reap those blessings. Use the website to communicate, ask questions and learn.
I know that Bro. Granville, your dynamic Director, will support you to the hilt!
