This was made possible through the untiring efforts of our dynamic Rev. Bro. Director, the dedicated staff members and the hardwork of these lads. the role played by our ever committed alumni spread around the globe could not be forgotten, as the many scholarship and incentive programmes provided by many individuals and overseas branches motivated and provided facilities to these lads to achieve their goals. On behalf of the OBU, I take this opportunity to thank each and everyone who contributed in some way to achieve this great feat. We congratulate the students and assure our assistance and support to further their careers in the future.

The O/L results, which were released a couple of weeks ago did not show a significant improvement, but there was a remarkable achievement in English, where as many as 83 students of the total 170 obtained 'A's. This certainly is a fantastic achievement.

SCHENGEN (Paris Branch News)
PARIS - Old Boys' Union's newest Branch

I am extremely delighted to announce the formation of the 8th branch of the OBU in Paris, France on 13th May 2006. The entire Benedictine family joins me in thanking Old Ben Lakshman Caldera, an outstanding Soccerite in his days, for initiating and getting together a group of loyal Old Bens domiciled in France to form another branch, which will serve our alma mater. At the inaugural meeting Old Ben Priya Fernando was elected President with Lakshman Cladera as the able Secretary. Old Ben Hiran Perera was appointed the Hony. Treasurer of the Paris Branch. They are also looking at the possibility of extending it to the other (Paris Branch News) schengen states and calling it the SBC OBU - EU (European Union). I will provide you with more updates from the branch shortly.

REV. BRO. DIRECTOR AND SUB DIRECTOR - Special invitees of the VICTORIA and SYDNEY Branch.

Rev. Bro. Granville Perera and Rev. Bro. Niran Perera, will be the special guests of the Victoria and New South Wales Branch when they visit Australia during the forthcoming school vacation. The idea to get Rev. Bro's and provide exposure in various schools in Australia for a couple of weeks were first mooted by Old Ben Glen Joseph, secretary of the Victoria Branch. The OBU and the Development Fund were delighted with this great idea and unanimously decided to fund the trip with the two branches, who volunteered to host them for 3 weeks. The Victoria Branch have already planned many training programmes and Brothers will undergo a few short courses at a prestigious TAFE College in Melbourne. They will also visit many schools in Melbourne managed by La Sallian Brothers to get a first hand overview of management and educational activities and also attend the inauguration of the Silver Jubilee year of our first overseas branch, the Victoria Branch. They will then proceed to Sydney, where they will be hosted by our grateful alumni led by Old Bens Fred Herft, Doug Jones and company. We thank both our alumni for providing this great opportunity to the Rev. Bro's to gain valuable exposure.

Generous donation from Victoria for the Playground Project

I am also pleased to announce the decision of the Victoria Branch to donate a very generous Rs. 1.75 million (us$ 17,000) towards the Playground Project. They have indicated their willingness to do a new score board for our playground. We are very thankful to the Victoria Branch for this wonderful gesture.
