OBU, Victoria - Island Nite 2006 by Glen Joseph
OBU Melbourne, AustraliaThemed “The Island Night” , the evening started with the newest dance band to hit the local scene Midnight Mist with lead vocalist Ben Nathanielsz teasing the patrons with numerous waltzes from yesteryear, as well as the appropriate classic “Green, Green, Grass of Home”, a delightful entrée for what was in store for the night ahead.

After a momentary pause for the opening, the dance floor was heaving with young and the old alike, all dressed up colourfully, keeping with the theme (did I mention that there was not a single person dressed up for a job interview?) and willingly shaking the bootie for the music pumped by the DJ.

In his speech, President Frank Pereira extended his heartfelt thanks to the Benedictine fellowship and well wishers for their continuous patronage over the last 25 years which has helped the association to successfully contribute towards the toil of an 141-year seat of higher learning, St. Benedict’s College, Colombo 13, Sri Lanka.
With an excellent lighting show and décor, thanks to the creativity of Lyn and Bryan Perera, the vibrant island atmosphere was way too much to just site and chat, everyone was dancing with no need for the Party Button to be pushed, thanks to the vibrations of “Midnight Mist” and DJ. Following more dancing, competitions, prizes and the raffle draw conducted by always popular Franklyn Holsinger, with the band doing a wonderful rendition of the Paul Simon classic “Late In The Evening”, the guests were treated to a sumptuous buffet of Sri Lankan cuisine by Crutchly Catering followed by traditional “wattalapam”.

Then came the “Limbo”, “Lambada” and everyone singing “Say I Love (You?), Say I Need You”, the evening came to an end at Kollupitiya Junction with a Baila session and the Ol’ Blue Eyes classic “My Way” with plenty of moments to remember in years to come.
We, members of the Benedictine fellowship of Victoria express our gratitude to all our patrons for their presence on the night and continuous support as always.
