Lionel Fernando's date with destiny By Maxie Kariyawasam Fifty years to the date, Benedictine captain Lionel Fernando was to establish an epic record that defies cricketing logic and which to the writer's knowledge has not been surpassed by any cricketer living or dead todate. It was in the school's second term match Vs St. Anne's Kurunegala that Lionel was to inscribe his name in letters of gold in not only cricketing statistics but also I believe in the Guinness Book of records and Ripley's "Believe it or not" by capturing all ten wickets in St. Anne's first innings and rub more salt into their wounds by compiling a masterful 204 not out in St. Benedict's reply of 342 for 6 wickets declared.
